Dear All
I like to share my experience for a network admin interviw..
I am surprised with a new concept "SUPERNETTII was given an ip address:-
192.168.1.2 with Subnet : 255.255.254.0

now tell me is it assignable....i answered in negative...NO...
& simple logic is Class c ip address & default subnet should be 255.255.255.0.
But he said once u go try this address.

Now need ur comments...

supernetting is classless routing and allows entry of a netmask instead of a subnet mask.

An other word for supernetting is classless interdomain routing (CIDR).

here are two explanations:
http://public.pacbell.net/dedicated/cidr.html or
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classless_Inter-Domain_Routing

In today's networks Class A, Class B, Class C really doesn't mean anything.

Just as you can subnet an address, so you can supernet an address as well.

In addition Supernetting is often used to consolidate networks in routing protocols.
