Has anyone purchased actual routers and switches to setup a lab to study for your CCNA/CCDA?? If so, what items do you have??

what is the point of purchasing actual routers and switches when you have good simulators in the market...like Boson and Netsim.Believe me they are sufficient

yes, for ccna/ccda don't need, try netsim its lower cost. you can design the topology like the problem in TK or any and practice.

You should always consider renting rack time. I think it is the most cost-effective alternative. Perform a google and you will find a lot on info on rack rentals.

To get pass CCNA/CCDA, you don't need the real routers. Simulator is enough for you to prepare the exam.
Also read more materials if you even dont have the simulator.

Ebay is a good source for cheap hardware. Just make sure that you try to get the IOS version that is currently being tested so you have access to all of the commands that will be on the test. I think IOS version 12 is the current flavor now.

I've found that the Cisco Books are hard to read as they tend to be boring.,..there's nothing better than actual working experience...however you iwll find that if you have an immense amount of networking knowledge than CCNA will be really hard to study, as it tends to bore you

I have a friend who bought a router (Cisco 2500) and a switch (Catalyst 2950) for laboratory purposes in preparation for his CCNA exam. Unfortunately, he still didn't pass... It means that why bother buying expensive equipment when you have a lot of alternatives... Try Boson Netsim for CCNP... works like a charm...
